Tucson to Southwest Colorado
August
The Plan
Every year, weather and fires are huge factors in deciding where to head. Tucson was getting crazy hot, as it does every summer, so I hoped Colorado's elevations would be a good choice. Afternoon thunderstorms are the norm there, but getting up early moderates that, and the light for photos is always best early anyway.
I made a quick stop at Mount Taylor, then a night in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before heading to southwest Colorado to find colorful hikes to warm up with.
Mount Taylor
I found this hike by chance after a quick overnight in the area. It was short and steep at elevation, but the drive, like so many times, was an even bigger challenge.

Moving Again
Rain and lightning were moving in fast. Time to get out of the line of fire.
Santa Fe
A quick overnight in Santa Fe, then north to southwest Colorado.
Southwest Colorado
This is where I could finally start stretching my legs again.
